A new update has just come to Overwatch this week, bringing in the new Horizon Lunar Colony map and a bunch of other changes, including a very subtle one. This particular change entails the effectiveness of aimbots, which were reported to have been reduced severely.

This claim first surfaced on the official Overwatch subreddit, as there are players from the Korean Overwatch forums reporting the change. This is not surprising, considering the cheating and hacking community is notorious in Korea, which led to more than 20,000 accounts being banned by Blizzard for violating the game’s rules.

According to the said post, the effectiveness of image recognition aimbots has been reduced significantly, due to a subtle change of in-game color. The magic lies in the way how aimbots target certain color values to lock their sights on targets, and the changes in the enemies’ colored outlines now render them a fair chance against cheaters.

"They [aimbots] are already known to function incorrectly on maps like Gibraltar with red backgrounds so this should deal a critical blow to these attacks,” said the post.

It’s very unlikely that Blizzard would confirm their latest anti-cheating measure, but hey, it’ll definitely generate a more conducive environment for players to enjoy playing Overwatch.
