October 10th is World Mental Health Day as recognized by the World Health Organization. It is a day to bring consciousness to the sufferers of mental diseases, especially in the workplace. With Ninja Theory's Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, mental health is on the forefront of the game with the main character Senua, battling her inner demons as she battles with her own psychosis. To commemorate World Mental Health Day, Ninja Theory will give all the proceeds from the game's sales of the day to raising awareness of mental health to a UK-based mental health charity, Rethink.
Along with this announcement, Ninja Theory also released a new trailer video that showcases pictures and quotes from gamers who enjoyed the game and helped them with their own mental health. The video is touching and shows how video games can connect people in a whole different way compared to other forms of media. Ninja Theory utilizing their game to boost awareness of mental disorders is a major step towards the discussion of mental health as a whole and using video games as a medium to address such issues.
Overall, this campaign is great and we hope more major game companies follow suit in their humanitarian pursuits. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is available now PS4 and Steam, with today's sales going to the UK mental health charity, Rethink.
