Back at Blizzcon last year, the Overwatch team made the decision to not make Deathmatch as one of the game modes as it beats the purpose of Overwatch being a team game. The Overwatch team has decided to retract their choice and add in two new game modes to the Arcade section of Overwatch, which are Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch.
For people who don't know what Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch is, both of these are classic FPS game modes. Deathmatch is also known as Free-For-All, where every individual player is the team itself, and you have to kill as many enemies as you can until the time is up or when someone reaches the target number of kills. As for Team Deathmatch, it has the same objective as Deathmatch, the only difference is that you fight as a team.
The way Deathmatch works in Overwatch is basically the same as any other FPS games out there. Eight players will try to kill each other to earn themselves a point for each kill, the top four players at the end of the game will be counted as winners and move one step closer to get a free Arcade lootbox. The basic of Team Deathmatch is still present in Overwatch but it comes with a slight twist. As mentioned by Overwatch Game Director, Jeff Kaplan in the latest Developer Update, Mercy plays a very important role in this game mode due to the fact that her ultimate, Resurrect can decrease the number of kills landed by the enemy team depending on how many teammates she manages to resurrect.
A new map was also designed exclusively for both Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch game modes- Chateau Guillard. Chateau Guillard is the family home of the Widowmaker, and it is situated in France. Before Widowmaker a.k.a Amelie Lacroix was married to an Overwatch agent, Gerard Lacroix, her last name was Guillard. The map will feature lore tidbits on Widowmaker's background and her current activities. Oh, and there are two jump pads on this map like the one in the Oasis map.
All of these new additions to Overwatch is now available for testing in the Public Test Region. Unless you want to wait until it arrives in the next patch, which will be quite far away, download the PTR now and explore the mansion of the Guillards.
