e-Sports could possibly be a medal event at the 2024 Olympics

A huge milestone for e-Sports might be achieved in 2024 as the Paris Olympic bid committee co-president, Tony Estanguet stated that e-Sports might be a medal event at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France, as talks will be held with e-Sports representatives and the IOC.

In an interview done with Associated Press (AP), Estanguet believes that the Olympics should start catering to the next generation, considering and making it much relevant to them. “We have to look at it because we can’t say, ’It’s not us. It’s not about Olympics.’ The youth, yes they are interested in e-Sports and this kind of thing. Let’s look at it. Let’s meet them. Let’s try if we can find some bridges," Estanguet told AP. “I don’t want to say ‘no’ from the beginning. I think it’s interesting to interact with the IOC, with them, the e-Sports family, to better understand what the process is and why it is such a success.”

The games that will be featured are still a mystery as everything is still not confirmed yet. “There is some time to look at it, to interact, to engage,” Estanguet said. “We will spend some time after (the IOC meeting in September) Lima to engage with new people and stakeholders. The IOC will have the last ... say, if they want e-Sports on the program. Let’s discuss among ourselves.”

E-Sports has already been listed as a medal event at the 2022 Asian Games as announced back in April. With this happening, there is a high chance that we will get to see the best e-Sports athlete fighting for their country's pride and glory in the Olympics. With all these happening, e-Sports will definitely be able to move to further heights.
