Nintendo Direct: Best Highlights Compilation From 13 September 2018

By Michelle J. Brohier on Sep 14, 2018

It was pretty upsetting when Nintendo Direct had to be delayed (for good reasons though!), but from what we're seeing, it has been worth the wait. Nintendo pulled out all their punches to make up for lost time, proving that no matter what others may say they still have plenty up their sleeves.

We've compiled our favourite announcements from the Switch in the following categories:

Remastered Games Coming To The Switch

(Some titles from the) Final Fantasy Series

While it's not only coming to Switch but to Steam and Xbox One as well, it's still noteworthy for the announcement to come from Nintendo. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition were already confirmed and announced last week, but other titles now  include Final Fantasy 7, 9, 10, 12. There will also be HD remasters for Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age and Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD, Final Fantasy VII and IX, as well as a new version of World of Final Fantasy and a new Chocobo Mystery Dungeon game.

Katamari Damacy

Are you ready to roll? A remaster of Katamari Damacy from the 2004 PlayStation 2 game is coming to the Switch in Winter 2018, which is pretty soon! The game will have HD rumble, gyro controls  as well as new multiplayer battles.

Classic Capcom Games

Not quite a remaster but it's still being brought over to the Switch. Called the “Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle”, the bundle will have seven classic fighter games which include: Final Fight, Captain Commando, The King of Dragons, Knights of the Round, Warriors of Fate, Armored Warriors, and Battle Circuit. The games will offer local and online multiplayer options, which is why it's convenient that the games are coming out on the same day as Nintendo Switch Online's launch on September 18.

New Games To Look Out For

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

Wii U may not have been a hit, but some of their games were and this was one of it! A deluxe version of  New Super Mario Bros. U is coming to the Switch in 2019 and will feature all the content from the original game as well as Super Luigi U. The game will have 164 new courses and new playable characters such as Nabbit and Toadette.

Yoshi's Crafted World

Nintendo made a quick slip up releasing the title prior (which was obviously caught) but at least Yoshi's new game is out of the bag after almost a year of teasing since E3 2017! Yoshi's Crafted World is set in a very artistic and hand-crafted world with "household items like boxes and paper cups." Yoshi can go forward, backward through a level and even flip perspectives to conquer challenges, gather collectibles and reach the goal. The game is set to be released in Spring 2019.

Animal Crossing

Many of us have been waiting for this title for so long, as the last major title came out in 2012. So far there's no information released, but Tom Nook has told us he's getting ready for us in 2019 and we're more than happy to wait for him!

Luigi's Mansion 3

Nintendo Direct kicked off their session with this big news! A new Luigi Mansion sequel is coming to Switch in 2019! Again, not much information has been revealed. But we can expect more scares and poltergeist for Luigi to face.

Animal Crossing fans, we have truly been blessed. Not only did we get confirmation that Animal Crossing is coming to Switch, but our sweet darling Isabelle is about to smash other characters to show who's the real mayor! Isabelle has been confirmed as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and her attacks include a fishing rod and bucket. We can't wait for more on this.

Nintendo Online Updates!

There are plenty of updates mentioned in the direct, including subscribers being able to purchase classic NES themed Switch controllers, cloud saves and even discounts on games. We will be writing a full feature on this so stay tuned.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Bundle

We've got the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Bundle that comes with iconic Nintendo characters plastered on the dock and some snazzy looking controllers. Pre-orders are now open and will start shipping on November 2 ahead of the game's release on December 7, with a price tag of $360 (roughly RM1500).
