E3 2018: Ubisoft Entertains & Entices With All Their Game Announcements

By Yue Lynn on Jun 12, 2018

After an uber short show from Square Enix, Ubisoft brought back the momentum to E3 by hosting an entertaining press conference filled with flair (that opening dance number accompanied by song covers done on the trumpet was awesomely rousing), comedy, Hollywood star power and some minor but charming blunders (forgetting to turn off the mic after the end of a panel). In the midst of all the fun, the spotlight was wholly on their games and Ubisoft did a spectacular job in making you feel the need to get their all of their featured titles. Good job, Ubisoft!

Let’s get the ball rollin’!

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

The latest entry of the Assassin’s Creed series is set in ancient Greece, hundreds of years before Assassin’s Creed Origins. During this particular period in time when Athens and Sparta were at war, players will take on a role as a mercenary (armed with a mysterious weapon) with the freedom to dictate their own journey with their own choices. Also, in this epic “role-playing journey”, players can either play as Alexios or Kassandra with options for same-sex romances!

Here’s a snippet of the gameplay:

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will be released on 5th October 2018, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Skull & Bones

A lot more information was revealed for this highly anticipated multiplayer naval/pirate game with the unveiling of a PvPvE mode called ‘Hunting Grounds’. Set in the Indian Ocean, players are free to hunt, loot and plunder either by going all lone ranger style or be part of a pirate alliance.

Of course in true pirate fashion, never throw caution to the wind as treacheries and mutinies might just stab you in the back.

Skull & Bones will be released in 2019, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Beyond Good and Evil 2

In this prequel to 2003’s Beyond Good and Evil, players will be playing as a space pirate captain (Ubisoft love captains, I guessed) in this action-adventure space opera. Not much information about the game itself was revealed other than a tease of the antagonist, a “ferocious, young Jade” from the first game.

Also, Ubisoft is collaborating with HitRECord (with a special stage appearance by founder, Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Space Monkey Program to work with the global creative community in creating art and music for the game.

No release date and platforms were announced.

Tom Clancy’s Division 2

Taking place in Washington D.C., a deadly virus had plagued America and while said virus “has been contained”, the nation was greatly affected by it. In short, there’s chaos and this is where players step in as the last line of defense.

In this game, players can choose their specialisations (sharpshooter, demolitionist, or survivalist) when they reached a specific level. Also, there will be single player and co-op mode of up to 8 players for Division 2. For this title’s Year 1, there will be three free DLCs called episodes.

Tom Clancy’s Division 2 will be released on 15th March 2019, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Just Dance 2019

Ubisoft’s conference was opened by this game and it was a performance worthy of mention and cheers. On that note, this title will have 40 new songs (ranging from “Finesse (Remix)" by Bruno Mars Ft. Cardi B to “Bang Bang Bang” by BIGBANG) and see the return of Kids mode in addition to providing players with a more “personalised experience”.

Just Dance 2019 will be available on 23rd October (25th for Europe) 2018 for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360, Wii U, and Wii.

Trials Rising

This action-packed motocross title was one of the funnest games (thanks to the game’s very sporting creative director, Antti Ilvessuo) to be shown during the conference. Trials Rising’s world premiere trailer showcased crazy motocrossing acrobatic action, cool real world locations and funny crashes, staying true to its tagline, “Eat Dirt. Taste Victory.” This game will have a multiplayer mode too!

Trials Rising will be released on February 2019, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Rainbow Six Siege: Another Mindset Documentary

After announcing that the game had surpassed 35 million players, Ubisoft will premiering a Rainbow Six Siege documentary at the first Six Major esports competition in Paris from August 17. This esports documentary will feature the lives and stories of eight Rainbow Six Siege community members, comprising of people of different roles, made up of pro players, Twitch streamers, an analyst, a head coach, a commentator and a manager.

Rainbow Six Siege is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle: Donkey Kong Adventure DLC

Donkey Kong will be featured in this special DLC starring Donkey Kong, Rabbid Peach, and a new Rabbid hero, Rabbid Cranky in quest to defeat “a vengeful Rabbid Kong”. Also, this announcement was shown alongside a live music performance by Critical Hit and Grant Kirkhope.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is currently available on Switch while this upcoming DLC will be released on 26th June 2018.

Elijah Wood made an appearance for this segment to introduce the game, which is a collaboration between FunHouse (a division under Ubisoft Montreal) and SpectreVision (a film production company co-founded by the actor). Combining live-action footage together with environmental storytelling, Transference is a creepy psychological thriller centering around an unsound scientist who experiments with brain data from himself and his family that resulted in a dark and eerie “digital simulation”.

Transference will be available at Fall 2018 in full VR on PSVR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive. For players without VR, the game will still be fully playable on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The Crew 2

This title’s segment was a short one, simply to release a new trailer and to inform players that they can register for this motorsports game’s open beta that will commences from 21st to 25th June 2018.

The Crew 2 will be released on 29th June 2018, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

For Honor

Two new updates were announced; Marching Fire and Breach. Marching Fire will see the introduction of four new badass warrior characters (The Tiandi, Jiang Jun, Nuxia, and Shaolin) from the Wu Lin faction.

Breach is a 4v4 multiplayer mode that centers around attacking and defending a castle. Additionally, to celebrate these updates, new players can get the For Honor Starter Edition on PC  for free from 11th-18th June by clicking here

For Honor is currently available and will also be on a discounted price of up to 75% off on all of its platforms until 17th June for Xbox One, 18th June for PC and 19th June 2018 for PlayStation 4.

Starlink: Battle for Atlas

In this game, players are part of a group of intergalactic pilots with a dedication to save the Atlas Star System from an evil robot force called the Forgotten Legion. This cool kid-friendly title also allows players to mount their Starship models onto their controllers as they take part in space battles! Additionally, there are plenty of customisable options available for players to design their own playstyle.

Shigeru Miyamoto, the man behind Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda made a surprise appearance during Starlink’s segment to drop another surprise: Star Fox will be coming to Starlink: Battle for Atlas with some fresh add-on content featuring Fox McCloud, Arwing, and bonus missions. However, Star Fox and its related extra content are only available for Nintendo Switch consoles!

Starlink: Battle for Atlas will be available on 16th October 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
