This is not a drill. Shenmue 1 and Shenmue 2 will be hitting the modern platforms later this year.
Sega announced that they will be re-releasing Shenmue 1 & 2 with some improvements under one package. However, these two titles collection will not be released as remastered or HD remakes.
According to the publisher, the Shenmue 1 & 2 collection encompasses the “best Shenmue experience to date”. The collection is enhanced with modernised features such as "fully scalable screen resolution, choice of modern or classic control schemes, PC graphics options, an updated user interface, and the option to enjoy either the original Japanese or English voiceovers."
Shenmue 1 and 2 follows the journey of a young martial artist Ryo Hazuki to uncover his father’s killer and the secret to a mysterious artifact known as the Dragon Mirror.
Shenmue 1 was originally released for Sega Dreamcast in 1999 and it was considered to be the most expensive game ever developed during its time. The following sequel, Shenmue 2 was launched in 2001 for original Xbox and Sega Dreamcast.
In 2015, the series creator Yu Suzuki attempted to revive these classic hits by launching a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for Shenmue 3. It was an instant success by reaching the target goal of $2 million in over nine hours.
