Western Digital Reveals The World's 1st 64-Layer 3D NAND SSD

Western Digital Corporation, the world's leading digital storage solution has recently announced the availability of the new WD Blue 3D NAND SATA SSD and the SanDisk Ultra 3D SSD in Malaysia. This would mark the world's first client solid state drive which is built with the company's 64-layer 3D NAND technology which provides lower power consumption, higher endurance, and capacities.

"Whether it's for gaming, photo, and video editing or other high-end computing applications, consumers today expect their PCs and laptops to deliver superior performance with higher endurance but with less power used," said Margaret Koh, Sales Director, Asia South, Western Digital Corporation. " The 64-layer 3D NAND-based SSDs are designed to meet those demands and these new SSDs, offered by our two strong brands. SanDisk and WD will appeal to a very broad footprint of tech-savvy consumers who are seeking the benefits of today's newest technologies."


Here are some of the specs for the new WD Blue 3D NAND SATA SSDs:

  • Interface: SATA III 6Gb/s
  • Form factor: 2.5*/7mm cased M.2 2280
  • Capacities: 250GB to 2TB

Here are some of the specs for the new SanDisk Ultra 3D SSD:

  • Sequential read speeds of up to 560MB/s, write speeds of upto 530 MB/s
  • Faster Boot Up and shutdown
  • Faster app load speed and response times
  • Interface: SATA Revision 3.0 (6 Gbit/s)
  • Capacities: 250GB to 2 TB


The WD Blue pricing is listed as per below:

  • 250GB: RM620
  • 500GB: RM1,100
  • 1TB: RM2,000
  • 2TB: RM3,800

The SanDisk Ultra 3D SSD 2.5-inch/7mm prices are as listed below:

  • 250GB: RM640
  • 500GB: RM1,150
  • 1TB: RM2,100
  • 2TB: RM3,950
