Platinum Games' wonderfully over-the-top third-person shooter, Vanquish, will finally arrive on PC via Steam this month, specifically May 25.
Already released is the announcement trailer, which reminds us what PC gamers had been missing out since 2010. The game has a cover system, but overshadowing that familiar feature are things like rocket-sliding on the ground at an exhilarating speed, battling large robot bosses and combat that looks incredibly stylish, to say the least. While it seems like something that's possible to play as a straight cover shooter, the other aspects of the game make it tempting to embrace the fast-paced experience on offer instead. It'd be a shame to let the rocket-slide and melee combat moves go to waste, after all.
The PC version's unlocked framerate and HD resolutions - up to 4K and beyond - should make fast combat even more enjoyable, and there will be "extensive" set of graphics options present alongside full Steam support and Japanese language support. Pre-ordering the Digital Deluxe Edition (which is currently the only edition being sold) will get you free bonus content like the digital ost samplet, digital art book, wallpapers and avatars will be available as well.
Vanquish sadly doesn't have a co-op or multiplayer mode, but there are online leaderboards for players to compete for top scores, along with DLC content included. The price is pretty great too - it's only RM40, which is the same as Bayonetta's, another Platinum game that was ported recently to PC. Owners of Bayonetta who're looking forward to Vanquish will be pleased to know that Vanquish will be 25% off for them.
It's great that PC gamers can finally experience the likes of Bayonetta and Vanquish, and this seems to only be the beginning. According to SEGA Europe's John Clark: “There’s more to come from SEGA in this space, so stay tuned for further announcements.”
