The second half of the year will have lots of cool and geeky international gaming conventions that you might want some attention to! In this article, we feature three big and important ones; namely Blizzard’s BlizzCon 2018, PAX Australia 2018 and Japan’s Tokyo Game Show 2018!
Blizzard had just released more details on their upcoming BlizzCon 2018, which will be held at California’s Anaheim Convention Center on 2nd and 3rd November later this year. Tickets for this event, aka “Blizzard’s epic celebration of games, esports and communities”, will be available on 9th May and 12th May, while tickets for a special pre-BlizzCon benefit dinner will be on sale on 16th May. The BlizzCon tickets will cost USD199 (RM769.20), plus applicable taxes and fees. The tickets consist of two-day admission to the main event and ticket holders will get a commemorative BlizzCon goody bag containing some Blizzard games-themed loot.
The ‘celebration’ will start with BlizzCon Opening Week will be held at Blizzard Arena Los Angeles from October 25 to 29, where the initial rounds of the StarCraft II World Championship Series Global Finals, Heroes of the Storm Global Championship Finals, and World of Warcraft Arena World Championship Finals will be hosted. These competitions will culminate in Anaheim on 2nd and 3rd November, wherein these tournaments’ champions, along with those of the Overwatch World Cup and Hearthstone Global Games, will be crowned.

PAX Australia 2018’s tickets are currently available for purchase! The convention will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 26th to 28th October 2018. For attendees who wish to purchase the tickets ASAP, the “Early Bird” passes are priced at AUD165 (RM493.20) for three-day-badges, while single day badges cost AUD62 (RM185.30). Additionally, Early Bird buyers will stand a chance to win their “choice of any ten game releases from 2018” and they will also have exclusive access to new PAX merchandise.
According to IGN, this year’s PAX Aus 2018 will have over “180 local and global exhibitors, thousands of games to play, and more than 150 hours of on-stage content across a range of panels, tournaments, and concerts.” One of the highlights for this year’s edition is that PAX Aus had teamed up with EB Expo to host a special space in the convention “for the world’s largest games publishers” in addition to some extra panels.

Tokyo Game Show 2018 will be held from 20th September to 23rd September 2018 at the Makuhari Messe venue. The two ‘Business Days’ will have events such as the Global Game Business Summit, the Sense of Wonder Night 2018 (an international festival for presenting game prototypes
and other ideas), TGS Forum 2018 (a conference that focuses on the latest game industry trends in technology and business), and the International Party (for networking).
This year’s Tokyo Game Show theme is “Welcome to the Next Stage” as they promise “new fun, new technology, and new excitement are waiting for you again this year”. Some interesting exhibition areas from this convention are the Romance Simulation Game Area, Smartphone Game Area, VR / AR Area, Game School Area and the Family Game Park among others.
