These English to Malay Translation Video Game Titles Amused Us (Part 1)

By Intan Mawarni on Apr 12, 2018

One of the best things about being a Malaysian is you can speak two or more languages that enable everyone to understand each other, no matter which race or culture you come from.

Other than that obvious benefit of being a bilingual, sometimes our brain interprets and translates things too fast for us, that even you get confused and ponder… what does this word actually mean in your own native language?

As for me, my native language is Malay, yet I spent most of my life using my computer and other technology products in the English language. So imagine how it was like when I had to learn the ICT subject in school with all of these computer’s components in the Malay language. I was totally perplexed with the terms and phrases. Motherboard? It’s “papan ibu” in Malay. I believe it’s “papan induk” now, thank God.

This same concept also applies to video game titles since the English language is the lingua franca of the world. So we just had to ask ourselves: what would they be like if they were in Malay?

Here are some English video game titles translated into Malay that will have you in stitches:

1. Call of Duty

Get back in line, soldier. “Panggilan Tugas” awaits.

There’s even “Panggilan Tugas” tournament coming soon: Call of Duty World War II 2018 Asia Championship

2. Far Cry

The literal English to Malay translation is “Jauh Nangis”. Is there crying involved in this game?

3. Final Fantasy

It’s translated to “Fantasi Terakhir.” Then, why there are so many DLCs coming up?

4. Kingdom Hearts

For Kingdom Hearts fans who have been waiting for more than 10 years for the third game, there is “Kerajaan Hati” somewhere in your heart.

5. God of War

Kratos is “Dewa Perang.” But, he’s not anymore. He has a cool axe and a smart son, Atreus.

6. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

This one has a pretty long literal translation: “Pemain Tidak Diketahui di Medan Pertempuran.”

Psst… PUBG is available on mobile now and here’s what we think about it.

7. Street Fighter

This famous fighting game translates to “Pejuang Jalanan”.

Street Fighter is usually played in arcades, consoles and PC but how about we go Hadouken! on Street Fighter board game?

8. Metal Gear Solid

Our handsome protagonist, Snake is going to face off “Pepejal Gear Besi”.

9. Mortal Kombat

Be prepared to be in “Pertempuran Manusia Biasa”. Mortal or not, we think Jax is one BAMF.

10. Just Dance

Shake your limbs and amp up your happy times in “Baru Sahaja Menari”.
