The hype for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was intense even before release, and it was well justified after launch due to its critical success, notching perfect review scores from most reputable reviewers. It’s a huge and much-needed victory for Nintendo when they launched the Switch, which also turned out to be highly popular among gamers despite some of the issues that marred the console’s successful launch. With that said, Breath of the Wild’s critical success is one of the main reasons to get a Switch, so it’s no surprise that Link’s latest adventure has broken another record.

According to Redditor koolcandy, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has gained the most number of perfect review scores on Metacritic. It might not be the highest-rated game of all time, lining up behind Ocarina of Time, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, and Grand Theft Auto IV, but Breath of the Wild’s 43 perfect review scores has overtaken previous record holders Super Mario Galaxy 2 and The Last of Us, each of which has 42 of them.

Most would argue that this is a meaningless evaluation of the game’s success as the number of reviewers for new titles fluctuates all the time, but Nintendo would prefer to view it as another plus point of their success. Coupled with the impressive launch of the Switch, it’s fair to say that the Japanese gaming company has bounced back from the setback of the Wii U. With that said, we still have to wait and see whether the hybrid console will have a better and longer life cycle than its predecessor, but at least Nintendo fans can relish the fact that they get to play one of the best games of all time.
