The Nintendo Switch's library grows larger as Nintendo updated fans on upcoming releases on their latest system today during their Nintendo Direct. Here are the best Switch announcements made today:
Fire Emblem Warriors' New Character
Fans of Nintendo's premier fantasy tactical RPG series, Fire Emblem is getting the Musou treatment with Fire Emblem Warriors, featuring all-star roster including the hero king Marth, Chrom, Tiki and much more. Today they announced the inclusion of everyone's favorite heroine, Lyn from Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. If you want to see your favorite Fire Emblem characters duking it out against thousands of enemies at once, check this game out when it releases on October 20th for the Switch and the 3DS line of systems.
Multiplayer Games Galore
Nintendo Switch can now get a taste of arena based brawlers with Arena of Valor, a new MOBA coming to the system. It features all the 3 lane, 5 v 5 gameplay you've come to expect from this genre, only now you can play it on the go or on your TV.
The high-speed car-based football game, Rocket League is also coming to Nintendo Switch with exclusive cars based on Mario, Luigi and Samus' Gunship from Metroid.
This quirky third-person shooter was announced during PAX West and was shown off in-depth during this Nintendo Direct. Players from each team can fire their bullets on individual body parts, shrinking the opponents limbs while making yours bigger. The mass gained is transferred to the team's avatar placed at the edge of the levels, the team that grows their avatar to the biggest size possible wins the match. Overall a fun and unique shooter for everyone.
Everyone's favorite football simulator is coming on to the Switch on September 29th, along with other sports-based titles such as NBA 2K18 and WWE 2K18 coming later in October.
An advanced port of the Pokemon fighting game, Pokken Tournament DX arrives on September 22nd with a demo of the game available now for download on the Nintendo eShop.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
The Nintendo Switch's first major JRPG is coming to the system on December 1st of this year. Players get to control Rex, a young scavenger traveling on his Titan, Azurda, as he meets a Blade named Pyra as they both journey across the world of Alrest, amidst cloud-seas, terrible beasts and impending political warfare against 8 warring factions. Rex is a Driver and he can harness weapons and power from Blads like Pyra, together they band up with other Drivers and Blades to reach the mystical land of Elysium. The video above showcases everything there is to know about the latest entry in the Xeno series.
The special edition of the game also includes a 220-page art book, a special metal case for the game and a soundtrack CD. There is also an exclusive Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Pro Controller for the Nintendo Switch, which is probably the most stylish Pro Controller one can get for the Switch.
Bethesda's Switch Offerings
Though it has been shown off since the Nintendo Switch's debut, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is finally heading to Nintendo Switch on November 17th. This version has all the DLCs in the cartridge, new motion control and exclusive Zelda Amiibo equipment which includes the Master Sword and Hyrulean Shield.
The 2016 reboot of DOOM is headed to the Switch this holiday season. Now you can take id Software's demon-slaying, Mars-roaming first-person adventure with you everywhere.
Another one of Bethesda's reboots is coming with Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus releasing in 2018, a few months after its release on PC, PS4 and XBox One.
Kirby Star Allies
The mystery Kirby game on the Switch now has a name, Kirby Star Allies and is coming out in Spring 2018. The game boasts 4 player co-op, with Kirby being able to befriend his enemies similar to the mechanic in the SNES classic, Kirby Super Star. Other players can then join in as one of Kirby's enemies turned allies. Another new feature is the ability to combine abilities into completely brand new abilities, an improved mechanic from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. This seems like an all-out celebration of all things Kirby coinciding with his 25th anniversary, with his best features from his best games all rolled into one. It also has a buffed-up King Dedede as the main villain.
Project Octopath Traveller (Working Title)
From Square Enix and the makers of the similarly ridiculous titled JRPG, Bravely Default, comes a brand new JRPG that aims to tapp into the nostalgia of playing JRPGs from the PS1 era in a brand new perspective. That game is Project Octopath Traveller (Working Title), though we wouldn't be surprised if it is revealed to be actually called Octopath Traveller for the full release. The game's aesthetics invokes memories of Xenogears or Suikoden with a new "HD 2D" look as they call it, mixing in computer generated landscapes and 2D sprites for the characters.
The game follows 8 different characters with different stories, job classes and abilities as they traverse through the land on their own paths of adventure. The trailer does a good job of conveying the atmosphere and grand scale of the game and introduces two of the 8 protagonists available in the game. The game is scheduled for a 2018 release and a demo is available for Nintendo Switch systems on the Nintendo eShop now.
Super Mario Odyssey
Of course, who can forget the world's favorite plumber, the new trailer for the game showcases most of the game's worlds and reveals the motive of Mario's new hat friend, Cappy, on teaming up with Mario. Together they are going to save Princess Peach and Cappy's sister Tiara from the evil Bowser. Together they traverse around the globe on the Odyssey, saving different kingdoms and collecting Power Moons to power the Odyssey in their chase for Bowser. The new trailer reveals not only new locales, but also Mario's new looks, like a caveman outfit, his Dr. Mario outfit and his beachwear that is a hit among fans, to say the least.
There is also a new Nintendo Switch Super Mario Odyssey Bundle that comes with the game, two new red Joy-Cons and a Mario-themed carrying case. Expect the release of the game and the bundle on October 27th this year.
