The Major League Championed by Celcom (TML 2017) took place over the weekend from 20th October to 22nd October, 2017, at EduCity Sports Complex’s Indoor Arena, Johor, Malaysia, with Team Execration from Philippines was crowned as the first ever champion after defeating China’s EHOME in the nail-biting grand finals, bringing home RM135,000.

The 3-day tournament is the first esports event to be held at EduCity Sports Complex and has hosted over 62,000 fans from both on ground and online to support and cheer for their favorite DOTA 2 teams participating in the tournament. Eight teams took part in this tournament, where seven teams were invited and one team that qualified for the event. The invited teams are China’s EHOME and Invictus Gaming Vitality (IGV), Philippines’ Team Execration, Clutch Gamers from Thailand, Evos Esports from Indonesia, and home favorites, Fnatic and Warriors Gaming Unity. The team that qualified for the last spot of TML 2017 is Johor’s own homegrown heroes, Team Highground after coming up on top in a nationwide qualifier prior to this event.

All 8 teams battled it out for the RM300,000 prize pool that was at stake and ultimately China’s EHOME and Philippines’ Team Execration were the ones that made it into the grand finals. Fans were expecting EHOME to win it all easily after a commanding win in game 1 as well as a huge lead for the majority of game 2. However, Execration’s carry, Gabbi managed to farm up as Anti Mage and turned the tides around to secure game 2 for the Philippines team. Game 3 was neck and neck between both teams for more than 20 minutes, until Execration got the better of EHOME with crisp decision making and teamwork, which lead to a snowball to victory.

“We are really proud to be part of event and happy to take the grand prize home. It’s well-organized and it’s great to see Malaysian fans come to support esports event everywhere. Looking forward to coming here again next year,” said Kimuel ‘XctN leumik’ Rodis of Team Execration.

Team Execration returned home with RM135,000 as champions, while EHOME earned themselves RM60,000 for coming in second. Third place Fnatic and fourth place Clutch Gamers were rewarded with RM30,000 and RM24,000 respectively.
