Another mobile adventure is coming to an end, Square Enix's mobile iteration of their classic sci-fi action RPG, Star Ocean: Anamnesis will cease services at the end of the year. This announcement was made by the game's official Facebook on the 6th of August.
The game was released in Japan on December 2016, with the English version of the game making its way to the Google Play Store and App Store worldwide on October 2018. Star Ocean: Anamnesis offered real-time action RPG gameplay, similar to the series' console games, and simplified it for mobile phones. The mobile game also brought together heroes from all across the Star Ocean series.
As per the announcement, Star Ocean: Anamnesis will be online up until November 6th 2019, at 12:00 p.m. Malaysian time. Starting today, in-app purchases will be disabled. The game's currency, Gems, that have already been purchased prior to the end of Gem sales will still be usable until the end of service. If you're still an avid player of this game, you can continue to obtain all Star Ocean characters, including holiday versions, by playing certain missions, as well as participate in multiplayer co-op battles until the end of service.
All in all, it's a shame that Star Ocean: Anamnesis is coming to an end after a year of service. Star Ocean is a cult favourite amongst RPG fans. Hopefully, the series will live on in other ways.
