Red Dead Redemption 2 is Taking us Back to a Time in John Marston's Past

After months of anticipation, Rockstar fans rejoice as the company behind Grand Theft Auto and LA Noire have finally released a new trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2. It has also been confirmed that the game is definitely a prequel to the story of the first game and will take us back to the great American frontier, before the turn of the 20th century.

Instead of using John Marston though, players will now assume the role of Arthur Morgan, an enforcer during John's time in Dutch's Gang, the very same gang that disbanded and made John choose a life of honesty and prosperity, until federal agents held his wife and son hostage in order to get John to seek out his former comrades and bring them to justice. Red Dead Redemption 2 will play out the lives and roles each member of Dutch's Gang plays through the eyes of a previously unheard member of the gang, Arthur Morgan, who seems to have a bit more grit than his counterpart in Red Dead Redemption.

For one, John Marston only did what he had to seek redemption from his time as an outlaw and him putting down his old compadres was his way of finding peace with his actions. Though he definitely was a cowboy, he had charm and grace and was a gentleman through and through. Arthur Morgan, on the other hand, plays into his outlaw role very well. He threatens people and hunts them down relentlessly in the trailer. Whether or not he goes on a path of redemption in the game remains to be seen, though it should be expected as per the game's title.

Overall, we can't wait to enter the world of Red Dead Redemption 2, through the desert wastelands, onto wet bayous and swamps, there is so much to unpack here. Who knows what else is in store for us, maybe it will take a page off of GTA V and have a massive multiplayer component or even multiple protagonists to use. Who knows, we can only pray that Rockstar will provide more info the next time they roll into town. Red Dead Redemption 2 is slated for release in Spring 2018.
