Recap: XLIVE eSports Summit

By Dale Bashir on Sep 14, 2017

The inaugural XLIVE eSports Summit came and gone and achieved their goal of bringing together the best out of gaming and sports under one one roof as one unified eSports community. It was held on August 22nd until August 23rd in New York City. XLIVE provided a platform for professional sports franchises, stakeholders and those looking into tapping into the upper echelons of the eSports industry in a one of a kind forum. One of the key features of the Summit was highlighting the huge role women have in the industry with key panels on the matter, including The Data-Driven Truth about Women and Esports and The Future is Female - How Women are Playing a Crucial Role in the Growth of Esports. With more women being interested in eSports, this level of representation and spotlighting the issue as is can hopefully open the door for more female inclusion in the world of eSports.

Another area of eSports that is less covered by most media was brought forward in XLIVE's event, these panels were Our House is Your House, highlighting the how venues are opening up to opportunities to host eSports events and Game On, a panel on how major sports teams are looking into establishing themselves into the eSports scene. Our House is Your House brought in representatives from some of the most famous arenas and concert venues to talk about hosting gaming events, this includes representatives from such arenas like The 02 Arena, Barclays Center and Madison Square Garden. Game On played host to major sports teams such as Miami Heat and The Golden State Warriors on how and why they are casting their sights on eSports and their hopes for the sport overall.

Other panelists include representatives from the NFL, EA, Verizon, and three time NBA champion Rick Fox. A panel between Todd Sitrin, General Manager for Electronic Art’s Competitive Gaming Division and Chris Halpin of  Chief Strategy Officer and Consumer Products of the NFL sat down for a talk on how eSports and traditional sports can converge moving forward in the future. They also held a CEO Throwdown, where CEOs from different companies can fight in Street Fighter to compete for a donation to their favorite charity and a free trip to the next XLIVE conference. Overall the Summit was a success and we look forward to XLIVE's next conference in Las Vegas, happening from the 10th to the 13th of December 2017. Find out more on their website here.
