You may have seen a recent challenge called #LemonsForLeukemia going around the internet. The challenge involves a nominated person eating raw lemons and the aim behind it is to raise awareness towards bone marrow donor registration. The people behind this challenge is two best friends, Chris and Dillon. Chris, a cancer patient was only given one year to live as “the cancer was a new mutated string that is resilient to most of the experimental drugs he had used before”. Wanting to make the most out of the time he has left, Chris and Dillon (both are video game fans) started a bucket list (containing 127 items) while at the same time trying to find a bone marrow donor that matches with Chris to defeat cancer.
One of the items from the bucket list was to set a World Record and this is where the #LemonsForLeukamia challenge comes in. Be The Match has partner up with the best friends to set the world record for the highest number of marrow donor registration in one day, which they succeeded in setting: nearly 4000 donor registrations. Notable challengers include Danny DeVito, Rooster Teeth, Rhett & Link (Good Mythical Morning), The Rock and Overwatch League, among others.
Overwatch League's involvement in the challenge was spearheaded by Team Envy:
