Have you heard? Today is International Day of Happiness! This day was conceptualised and founded by a prominent United Nations special advisor Jayme Illien who wanted to inspire, mobilise and advance the global happiness movement.
Well, the day is almost over and it may not be as happy as you had hoped it would be, but you can still save your day by indulging in your favourite game ever! So today, we would like to share with you what some of us at Gamehubs turn to to make ourselves happy again after a rough day.
Favourite Game: Overwatch
Lim Yue Lynn, Writer of Gamehubs
I love Overwatch because it fulfils me on a personal level. It's not the most perfect game out there, but it's perfect enough for me. Yes, playing Overwatch means being salty; but one has to take the bad with the good. And at the end of the day, win or lose, Overwatch still makes me very happy! :D
Favourite Game: Destiny
Azfar Abu Bakar, Multimedia Editor of Gamehubs
Destiny is special to me. I could be a space cowboy that can wield mysterious cosmic magic that was extracted from a moon-sized sphere, hovering over the last city on earth. I can also travel to post-colonised locales in our galaxy - Mars, Venus, the Moon - to progress through my mission to save humanity.
There is also something intrinsically joyful about getting a shiny new gear, but it’s even more enjoyable when you get to show off your spoils to your counterparts, be it in the game’s social space, or on the field. The game knows how giddy new loot would make players feel, so they went the extra mile by flourishing each loot drop with pizzazz and spectacle. I would come back home from work, tired and stressed so I turned to Destiny to be my escape. The golden days of Destiny is a relic of the past with how disappointing Destiny 2 turned out to be, but I can remember with ease how much joy I felt in those three years of playing Destiny.
Favourite Game: Star Wars: The Old Republic
Jasmin Osman, Feature Editor of Gamehubs
Yup, that’s me after I finally got myself a tauntaun on Hoth. Don’t ask me how long that took...
Condensing my list of favourite video games was tough but one obvious game that makes me happy would be Star Wars: The Old Republic. It’s a massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) in my favourite fictional world in a galaxy far, far away, with stories thankfully untouched by the hands of Disney. I love Star Wars, everyone who knows me knows that and this game is full of different aspects of the universe that you couldn’t get elsewhere; whether it’s the politics of the Sith Order, the life of a bounty hunter or the not-so picture perfect life of the Jedi. Now with expansions, further developing stories of The Old Republic, I could happily spend hours and hours end just immersed in these stories, escaping the real world.
Favourite Game: Arthur's Birthday
Daniel TY, Operation and Admin Manager of Gamehubs
I will never forget the day my family got a computer. I was so excited to play games on it and I remember my Dad installed a Living Book game called Arthur's Birthday by Marc Brown. It is an interactive visual story book with a plethora of clickable elements and jokes that made me giddy with happiness for the younger years of my life. Until I received a Gameboy of course.
Favourite Game: Just Dance series
Michelle Brohier, Content Manager of Gamehubs
If there's any game I go to to cheer myself up, it has to be this one. Sure it can be challenging and there are days where I don't feel like getting up. But as someone who loves music, this is one way to really feel the beat, get moving and feel a lot better. Sure I screw up dance steps, but as long as it plays my favourite music, I don't care! It hasn't failed me so far and I am always down for anyone who wants to dance with me.
Favourite Game: Kingdom Hearts Series
Yoke Yin, Multimedia Designer of Gamehubs
Growing up watching Disney movies, this game really brings out the happy child in me. Not only can you fight alongside Mickey and friends, you also get to explore the different worlds such as Atlantica that is featured in the game. Being able to swim with Ariel is probably my dream come true!
Favourite Game: Guild Wars 2
Justin Chee, Editor of Gamehubs
While I had my fair share of games that make me happy, none can come as close to Guild Wars 2. It would be the 'happiest' game of my life so far for its deep storyline, vast and beautiful environments and very intelligent overall planning of an MMORPG. I believe then it truly resonates with what I was looking for in an MMO, a wholesome experience from the start to where I left. Amazingggg.
