Moira, the new support hero announced at BlizzCon 2017

By Kurtis Chan on Nov 4, 2017

During the opening ceremony of BlizzCon, Overwatch 26th hero was announced- Moira, and she will be coming to Overwatch very soon.

By the looks of it, she is a support hero who is capable of dishing out insane amount of damage as well as healing teammates. Her right hand is used to deal damage, sucking health from enemies, and recharging her biotic energy, while her right hand functions to heal allies by expending the stored biotic energy.

Here are the descriptions of her abilities as posted by Blizzard:

Biotic Grasp

Using her left hand, Moira expends biotic energy to heal allies in front of her. Her right hand fires a long-range beam weapon that saps enemies’ health, healing Moira and replenishing her biotic energy.

Biotic Orb

Moira launches a rebounding biotic sphere; she can choose between a regeneration effect that heals the allies it passes through, or a decay effect that deals damage to enemies.

Fade

Moira quickly teleports a short distance.

Coalescence

Moira channels a long-range beam that both heals allies and bypasses barriers to damage her enemies.

For the Overwatch lore maniacs out there, Moira O'deorain is a Talon geneticist, who is also formerly affiliated with Blackwatch. Over a decade ago, she published her scientific paper regarding DNA alteration to cure diseases and disorders, and also maximize human potential. But little did she know, her paper ruined her own reputation.

Moira was recruited into Blackwatch, Overwatch's covert ops division shortly after that, but Overwatch did not acknowledge her affiliation with them. After Overwatch was disbanded, she joined scientific collective that builded Oasis, and rumors Talon supporting her for the organization's own good has been spreading.

Moira's work is still unknown to most of the world as she has been carrying out in secret. But now, it is only a matter of time before her existence impacts the world as she has been freed from all constraints.

Moira will soon be joining the Overwatch Public Test Region for play-testing before heading into live servers for both PC and consoles.
