One of the highly anticipated sequels in video games has finally been announced (sort of) by US retail chain Target, as they list Middle-Earth: Shadow of War on their product page. Having a successor to 2014’s Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor is not exactly a huge shocker since it was well-received by fans and critics alike, but we find it surprising that publisher Warner Bros. seemed non-committed on the topic. The listing has been removed, but not before DeathByBacklog captured some screenshots and posted them on NeoGAF.
Here’s a quick synopsis of Shadow of War:
Experience an epic open-world brought to life by the award-winning Nemesis System. Forge a new Ring of Power, conquer Fortresses in massive battles and dominate Mordor with your personal Orc army in Middle-earth™: Shadow of War™.
Go behind enemy lines to forge your army, conquer Fortresses and dominate Mordor from within. Experience how the award-winning Nemesis System creates unique personal stories with every enemy and follower, and confront the full power of the Dark Lord Sauron and his Ringwraiths in this epic new story of Middle-earth.
In Middle-earth™: Shadow of War™, nothing will be forgotten.
In addition to the base game, the leak has also revealed a Gold Edition of Shadow of War, featuring two nemesis expansions, two story expansions, and a Gold War Chest. As expected of any sort of expansions, you’ll get new enemies, story content, abilities, side missions and more. The standard edition will cost $59.99, while the Gold Edition will require players to fork out $99.99.
If the Target listing turns out to be a reliable source, Middle-Earth: Shadow of War will release on August 22 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It’s being developed by Monolith again and being published by Warner Bros., who should be releasing an official announcement quite soon.
