According to Fikri Rizal, Partnerships Associate of Garena Malaysia, the agreement with Terengganu FA is an overwhelming breakthrough for Malaysian Esports as a whole. “Football is Malaysia’s favorite sport without a doubt, however, it is also the only sports game to be played competitively via e-Sports as well. As Terengganu spearheads this challenge, we hope to see more local football clubs follow in this direction as the potential can be limitless,” he said.
There are many big international football clubs out there like Paris St Germain, Schalke 04, Fenerbahce, and many more have already formed their own e-Sports team taking part in several e-Sports titles. As a local Premier League club that has been promoted into the Malaysian Super League, Terengganu FA will first begin their Esports journey in FO3 before transitioning into other titles such as League of Legends.
