It’s been more than 20 years since Wizards of the Coast released trading card game Magic: The Gathering, but its popularity is not slowing down anytime soon with the upcoming release of its latest and 74th expansion, Amonkhet. This will be the first expansion in the Amonkhet block and it’s slated for launch on April 28, though you can preview the set by joining the prerelease events taking place at Malaysia game stores on April 22 and 23.

In case you are not familiar with Magic, it primarily consists of thematic expansion sets named ‘blocks’, with smaller expansions within each block (e.g. the Kaladesh and Aether Revolt expansions were part of the Kaladesh block). We definitely can’t explain all the rules here, but you can try out the game via Magic Duels, a digital game that can be played on PC via Steam, and iOS mobile devices. Or you can just head to an MTG store near you and have some hands-on experience with the game, while getting assistance from the friendly community.

As for the Amonkhet set, it is based on Ancient Egyptian lore, with 264 well-designed cards that’ll definitely appeal to those who fancy pyramids, pharaohs, and stories of the Egyptian gods. We recently got invited to a media prerelease event and we had a great time trying out the new expansion. Even though we are just casual players at best, but it’s clearly evident that the Amonkhet set offers engaging and strategic gameplay, which befits a TCG of Magic: The Gathering’s caliber. It also introduces some new mechanics, namely ‘Embalm’, ‘Exert’, ‘Aftermath’, and ‘Cycling’. You can check out the full cards list of Amonkhet via this link.

Players can try out the Amonkhet expansion in prerelease events that are happening this weekend on April 22 and 23 at all local stores in Malaysia. These events are Sealed Deck format events, where you’ll be given prerelease packs and time to construct a 40-card minimum deck to test your skills with the new expansion. You can find out your nearest MTG retail store by visiting Wizards of the Coast official site. Magic: The Gathering – Amonkhet will officially launch on April 28.
