Great news for Malaysian game developers! The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) today has signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with the world’s most prominent game development platform company, Unity Technologies for its first Unity Centre of Innovation (COI) in Southeast Asia.

The first Unity COI will be established at Malaysia’s very own LEVEL UP Inc, an incubator space for game developers and small games studios to collaborate and support the development of Malaysia’s video game industry.

Get ready to be dazzled with this new cutting-edge facility as it will equipped with Unity Analytics, a powerful tool that provides data analytics on gamer behaviour and market trends. Game developers will also be given a chance to attend specialized technical and business workshops conducted by the Unity Evangelist team and receiving benefits from the highly advanced Unity Pro software.

The MoA was signed at the prestigious Game Developers Conference 2018 in San Francisco gears up the next step for Malaysia in building a world-glass gaming ecosystem.

MDEC’s Chief Operating Officer Dato’ Ng Wan Peng signified this establishment of Unity Centre of Innovation as an outstanding achievement for Malaysia to become as a regional hub for game production and development by 2025.

At the conference, she explained the future mutual relationship with Unity: “We have worked closely with Unity over the years to nurture the next generation of game developers through LEVEL UP at schools and through Unity certification programs. We are confident that the new Unity Centre of Innovation will propel the growth of our games industry to an important cornerstone of the digital economy in Malaysia.”

President of Unity Technologies Asia Pacific division Hubert Larenaudie had praised our local industry, saying: “We have seen the enthusiasm and passion of Malaysian game developers and are dedicated to support their growth with Unity’s latest technologies.”

Nine game development studios will be among the first few to benefit from this wonderful initiative. The first Unity Centre of Innovation will be up and running soon, beginning sometime this month. For more information about Unity Centre of Innovation, check out their Facebook page.
