The sword-swinging, gun-slinging, neon hero of Hyper Light Drifter is making his way on to the Nintendo Switch as a guest character on the indie, party-fighting game, Brawlout. This four-player brawler is a Smash Bros-inspired game that supports up to 4 players fighting on a stage at once, with its own cast of unique characters.
Hyper Light Drifter's unique, neon-hued low-bit style, is translated beautifully in Brawlout's more chunky and cartoony 3D renderings. The Drifter looks good and can put up a good fight against the colorful cast of anthropomorphic animals, with his fast sword slashes hitting hard against the bare knuckles (and one pair of wings) of Brawlout's roster. The trailer also emphasizes on the Drifters ability to reflect ala Fox McCloud against his foes, he is even able to reflect projectiles coming from above and both sides with great efficiency.
The official website shows that are two more fighters coming after the Drifter's debut, with no additional information on whether they will be original characters or more guest characters from other indie games. This is also Hyper Light Drifter's second foray as a guest character in a fellow indie game, with his first outing in party platforming game, Runbow and another guest spot in the upcoming Hex Heroes. If this keeps up, he might just give Shovel Knight a run for his money as "Indie Game Star with the Most Guest Appearances in Other Games".
Brawlout is out now on Steam and will be coming later in the year for the Nintendo Switch, PS4 and XBox One. No word yet on the release of Hyper Light Drifter on the Nintendo Switch.
