Get in-game items for reading news? Nintendo's new way of rewarding their players

Have you ever watched a food video on your social media and thought to yourself:"Damn, I wished I had that in front of me right now." And then boom, the food magically appears after the video is done, wouldn't that be swell? Well, Nintendo's new approach to their rewards system for their news feed is something like that. Released today, Nintendo Switch players will now receive in-game rewards for reading certain news on the Nintendo news feed.

With this new version 1.3.1 update, reading the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Tips from the Wild channel will give players the item they had been reading about the next time they boot up a save file. The first of these posts come from Hidemaro Fujibayashi, the director for Breath of the Wild, who shares a tip for befriending dogs in the game and provides players with the necessary items for it. Players then can start the game immediately from the bottom of the post and receive said items, in this case, some raw meat and apples.

Youtube channel GameXplain posted a video of this rewards system in action. Sadly, this feature is only in the Switch version of Breath of the Wild, and there is no such rewards system available to the Wii U version of the game. Hopefully, as the Switch library grows, so too will this feature be expanded upon. Maybe we can get extra coins for Mario in Mario Odyssey or special costumes for the squids in Splatoon 2. The possibilities are endless.
