Fresh from the press: Playstation Experience 2017 Press Conference Roundup

The day is over, and we had tons of fun covering Malaysia's first ever Playstation Experience 2017 at KL Live. The crowds were massive, and the fun even more so. As part of our efforts to cover this event in totality, we are creating different segments of events such as these, to help improve your navigation through the event itself, and without further ado, we first present to you the juiciest details from the media press conference with 4 well known developers and their latest gamer titles.

Monster Hunter World

Starting off the day hot comes from Capcom, with Ryozo Tsujimoto, game producer of Monster Hunter World starting off the presentation with a demo of the E3 trailer which can be seen below, with further explanation on what can be expected from the latest title in the Monster Hunter franchise. First off, would be the upcoming demo game for the PS4 and PS4 Pro, players will be able to choose between hunting 2 monsters which are the Anjarath and the Great Jagras.  As for the gameplay, no new updates from Ryozo-san but there is a definitive focus on multiplayer gameplay which supports up to 4 players simultaenously. Additionally, from the trailer, it is also confirmed that the new monsters AI are tuned to be attracted to sound and they can destroy terrain to make new paths for movement.

The FAQ section however revealed some choice details on the game such as the map size for Monster Hunter World is estimated to be 2.5 times bigger than its predecessors. There is also a definitive return of the Guild Rank system, removal of the Guts pose after drinking potions or eating food, return of the lobby system, and last but not least removal of the guild quest mode. Although the last item has a chance of coming back as a DLC. The game is set to launch in early 2018 for the PS4 and PS4 Pro

Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite

 

Next on our list is the game that has gotten the hype of the fighting games community, Marvel Vs Capcom, and joining us for the presentation was Tomoaki Ayano (Promotion Producer) and Kansuke Sakurai (Assistant Producer). It has been 20 years since the game was created and during that time this marks the 6th Marvel Vs Capcom game that has been published. There are new features to this iteration of the game, which is the first time this franchise adds a cinematic story mode to the game, which is focused on the Marvel Infinity War canon. This also directly affects the mechanics of the game as it allows characters to collect Infinity Stones to unlock latent abilities which either affects them or the map that they are fighting in. Players can unlock these Inifinity Stones only through the story mode.There are also new features for beginners who has no experience in fighting games, which are the Auto Combo mode and Easy Hyper Combo.

Auto Combo is a system that allows newer players to execute flashy combos by spamming one button on the controller while Easy Hyper Combo lets you reveal your characters ultimate ability by pressing 2 buttons. This means that now, anyone can show off at a party. Additionally, there is also a support of 15 languages upon the game's release which makes it widely accessible globally. For fans eager on getting the game, you can now download the demo on the PS Store. Digital versions of the game are also available for preorder as well as the season pass for the game. These pre-order purchases comes with additional bonus content. As for the DLC's, there are going to be 6 unique collectible characters, whereby 2 have been revealed as Sigma and Black Panther. The game is due to launch on September 21,                                                                                   

 Final Fantasy Monsters of The Deep

Coming in to cool us down after the hypes is Final Fantasy's Monsters of the Deep which is their upcoming standalone game which takes the fishing side mission to the next level. By next level, we mean you now get to immerse yourself with a PSVR and a Playstation Move and fish with Nocturne and gang. It features fishing small fish, big fish, and large fishes that reminds you of fishes. No, you can't cook these fishes. Your fishing can be done in many locations available in FFXV and it will launch on September 2017. 

Gran Turismo Sport

To close our press conference, we have one of the heavy hitters of gaming from Japan, Gran Turismo Sport, which is usually a marker for a consoles generation as they usually only release a game once in a few years, with the last game being Gran Turismo 6 back in 2013. We will be doing a special feature on Gran Turismo Sport as well on our next issue of Edge Asia, so do check it out. Presenting the game today, was Kazunori Yamauchi, producer and designer for the Gran Turismo series.

Whenever a Gran Turismo game is launched, it's usually revolutionary, and what we got from this presentation was nothing short of breath taking. Yamauchi-san describes how the game has taken so long to make because of how detailed and precise they have been future proofing the game. The results,it has a decades worth of playability. This will also be the 1st game that will be 4K, 60fps, Wide HDR color, and VR ready all at once. Additionally, he also adds that even if technology were to trend towards 8K displays, GT Sport is already at that level.

Feature-wise, the GT Sport features 17 locations with 28 layouts by launch period, 150 premium car models. These car models were meticulously built from scratch in order to model every detail of the car, to the point that the manufacturers themselves are amazed at the accuracy of the models, and as a side note, the precision was also done to ensure VR compatibility. GT Sport will also feature a Sport mode which is a split between 2 championships, Nations Cup, and Manufacturers Cup. Nation's Cup pits players from one nation against another to find out which country has the best driver, while the Manufacturer's Cup pits brand against brand, to let players determine, which car brand comes out on top.

Besides that, Gran Turismo has brought back its prestigious GT Academy features into this game as well, whereby players who win their FIA World Finals, can be awarded on the same FIA prize ceremony platform with real racers. This marks the first time a videogame award is placed next to a real sports athlete.Players can also earn the FIA Gran Turismo Digital License which is FIA approved, thus earning players a real-life motorsport license. It currently has 22 countries participating , but sadly, Malaysia has yet to be included.
