After 10 years in the making, Final Fantasy XV has officially reached our shores, much to the delight of fans and newcomers alike. A launch event was held at GSC Maxx Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur to commemorate the release of the game, with over 500 fans in attendance. It is one of the highly anticipated PlayStation 4 titles in the country, despite skepticism from certain parties on the direction the franchise is heading.
Demo booths were available for fans to try out FF XV Platinum Demo, which served as some sort of a warm-up before they enter the cinema hall for the main event itself. Guest cosplayers (Noctis, Lunafreya, Prompto, Cindy) were also present as they liven up the mood at the event, giving the attendees a chance to take some commemorative photos.
The night truly began when everyone was gathered and seated at the hall as Wan Hazmer, lead game designer of FF XV, shared on-stage about some of the Malaysian elements you can find in the game, including the infamous ‘teh tarik’, ‘roti canai’ and chicken rice, which is apparently his favorite. Managing director of Soundtrec Malaysia, Falk Au Yeong also presented about his experience working on the game’s soundtrack, while fans were treated to the latest rendition of the Final Fantasy main theme. The local development team from Streamline Studios and Illusionist Animation Studio were given a tribute as well for their effort in creating the game, giving the crowd something extra to cheer about knowing the game is Malaysian (kinda).
MC of the night, Jeremy Teo then proceeded in trying out the game on the humongous screen, before counting down for the official launch. One of the first persons to own the game, graphic designer Loh Soon Jun, who has been a fan for 20 years, was clearly excited as he looked forward to trying out some of FF XV’s modern features.
I can’t wait to experience the immersion of the game as I explore every corner of the world and stumble upon something useful in some random cave or dungeon. It’s been a long 10 years waiting for this to happen.
The event’s final act (pun intended) was a lucky draw for those who bought the game, with the grand prize of a PlayStation 4 Luna Edition. Once the festivities were over, everyone wasted no time in clearing the venue as they prepare to explore the world of Lucis and reclaim their throne.
