Rejoice, Injustice 2 fans! One of the most anticipated characters has been added to the game’s roster in the form of Dinah Laurel Lance, aka Black Canary. The reveal was shown in a gameplay trailer, featuring Black Canary showing off her fancy martial arts moves along with her own super move. Fans were mostly stoked on the iconic character’s inclusion, while there are some who weren’t impressed with her in-game skillsets, claiming that she is just a Sonya Blade clone from the Mortal Kombat series. As much as we would love to join the debate, we at Gamehubs prefer to skip out on it and focus on the characters that we would like to see in the game. Here are our top 5 selections that we hope developer NetherRealm will add into Injustice 2 ahead of its launch on May 16 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Leonard Snart is coolness personified as his villainous alter ego, Captain Cold. As much as he hates to admit it, Snart is always portrayed as more of an anti-hero rather than the straight up villain that he claims himself to be. And besides, he always stood out from the villains with his no-kill policy, which shows that he is not as “cold” as his nickname suggests. It’ll be nice to have another character with freezing powers alongside Killer Frost (she is not confirmed for Injustice 2 as of now), and it’ll be even better to have Wentworth Miller reprising his role from The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow TV series.
The first Injustice featured Killer Frost as an ice based character, but an opposite fire based character was nowhere to be seen. Firestorm will be a great fit here, especially when he is currently in the limelight now for his role in The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, which will appeal to the masses rather than just the comic book fans. If he does join the cast of Injustice 2, maybe the developers can come up with creative ways of showcasing his transmutation powers that can transform interactable objects, as opposed to only shooting fireballs. On a personal note, I would love to hear Victor Garber’s voice on the background as Martin Stein, as he comments on his partner’s fighting skills.
Reverse Flash / Zoom
When you have the Flash, it’s a must to include Barry Allen’s lifelong nemesis, Eobard Thawne aka Reverse Flash. It’s surprising to see him being excluded in Injustice: Gods Among Us (he did feature in the mobile version), but it’s certainly a no-brainer for NetherRealm to add him into the Injustice 2 roster. On top of that, the developers can even add an alternative skin in the form of Hunter Zolomon, preferably with the costume based on season 2 of The Flash. It’ll add some distinction to both of the evil speedsters, and everything looks cooler in black. Don’t you think?
If you follow Cartoon Network as a child, then you might remember him in the animated series Static Shock. NetherRealm programmer Ed Boon constantly tease Static’s name in his Twitter voting polls involving potential DLC for the first game, but he didn’t make the cut. He did make it into the mobile version, so it’ll be nice to play him again on the big screens. Not to mention Static is quite fun to use in-game, as he can shock his enemies, have the ability to magnetize anything and he moves around on top of a floating disc. How cool is that?
The African heroine first gained popularity for her appearance in Justice League Unlimited in the mid-2000s, but it’s not until she gets her own animated series, along with subsequent appearances in Arrow and a recurring role in Legends of Tomorrow that garnered quite a following for her. Vixen would also be an interesting character to use in Injustice 2, as she draws her powers from a totem, giving her access to various moves from different animal spirits. This will add a certain dynamism to the character, which will inspire various play styles as opposed to other more straightforward characters in the game’s roster.
