After the fiasco that was Mass Effect: Andromeda, Bioware Montreal has been reduced to a support studio status. However, that is not the end of its predicament as it seems that the entire Bioware Montreal office is being merged together with EA Motive. In a conference call earlier this month, EA CFO Blake Jorgsen has hinted on something big that has moved into their offices.
"We're building out a new studio in Montreal, as we've told everyone. And we've hired over 100 people into that studio that are brand-new to EA. This is to build the new IP around Jade Raymond's team that she's been building," Jorgensen said. "It's a wonderful new addition to our team. And we brought our BioWare Montreal team into that same facility. So they now all sit in one new studio together."
From any onlookers perspective, this means that Bioware Montreal is as good as gone, as one company juggling two studios is hardly a feasible strategy. EA Motive was founded by former Assasin's Creed producer Jade Raymond and Motive is currently in charge of Star Wars Battlefront 2 as well as an untitled Star Wars game being made in tandem with Visceral.
