Remember buying those fake Gameboy Advance cartridges that proudly proclaimed to have 200++ games, when in fact only 3 of them were actual GBA games, 7 of them would be the original Mario with different sprites and the rest would just be obscure NES titles? Well imagine that but as an actual game, and instead of obscure, forgotten Japanese Famicom titles, they were proper titles designed by indie legends. That game is UFO 50, the new game, rather the new 50 games from Spelunky designer, Derek Yu, Downwell's designer, Ojiro Fumoto and Eirik Suhrke, Jon Perry and Paul Hubans, who have all worked on Skorpulac, Time Barons and Madhouse respectively.
All the games included are brand new and evoke those nostalgic NES games through its design and charm. Regarding the size of the games, the official website states that:"In general, the games are slightly smaller than commercial 8-bit titles from the 80's, but rest assured that they are full games and not microgames or minigames! Completing the entire collection could easily take over a hundred hours." The games even emulate the limited colour palette of the NES with only 32 colours available to be put on screen.
With different games covering a whole range of genres, like adventure, platformers, and shoot-em-ups, this indie retro-inspired collection is definitely one to keep an eye out for. Most of the games will also feature either competitive multiplayer or cooperative play. The game will be released on PC first sometime in 2018 with Mossmouth publishing it, with other platforms coming after that.
