11 Console Games You Didn't Know You Could Play On Your Phone

By Jasmin on Jul 4, 2018

We recently wrote about mobile games that are going to be ported to the Nintendo Switch. Well this round, I stumbled across the knowledge that one of my favourite PlayStation 2 games has a mobile version and it was released in 2016. “How did I not know this? Are there others?” I asked myself and oh boy, was I pleasantly surprised. There are many others.

Here’s a list of console games that are playable on mobile right now:

This hilariously narrated action RPG was originally released in 2011 for every console. And now, it is available on mobile for more people to enjoy. This will be the first of sads for Android users as it is currently only available for Apple devices. I do recommend playing it, so perhaps you could get it on Steam?

This game available on iOS devices for RM19.90 through the App Store.

Bully: Anniversary Edition

This was the game I was talking about earlier. This is most definitely my most favourite game by Rockstar Games growing up and I thought it was actually the best game they made (fight me). Relive your schooling days at Bullworth Academy on mobile!

Available on the App Store (RM29.90) and Play Store (RM25.99)

A pixelated puzzle-platformer where you play a little pearly happy...thing with a magical fez! I loved playing it on the PC and I would highly recommend anyone who has been thinking of getting the game to get it on mobile. You won’t regret it! Sadly, Android users will have to get the PC version as it is only available on iOS devices.

Get Fez is on the App Store for RM19.90.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Alongside GTA III and GTA Vice City, you can also play Chinatown Wars and Liberty City Stories. Roam the streets of San Andreas once more as C.J and wreck havoc (or be a good citizen, but who plays GTA that way?).

Get San Andreas on the App Store (RM29.90) or Play Store (RM25.99).

This creepy greyscale game made headway in the indie scene. Ridiculously simple yet incredibly captivating, this game is also a must-have for gamers interested in getting their hands on more indie games on their phones.

LIMBO is available on the App Store (RM16.90) and Play Store (RM20.79)

From the creator of LIMBO comes another creepy game. This time involving a kid on the run and discovering that the world is not what it used to be. Oddly enough, INSIDE isn’t available on the Play Store (yet, I assume) so hold on to your hats, Android users!

Get INSIDE’s demo for free on the App Store (purchase the full game in-app for RM29.90)

Max Payne

Another Rockstar title! I know, this surprised me too. This popular third-person shooter has you playing as Max, a cop hell-bent on avenging his murdered family. The mobile version even features Bullet Time! Holy Potatoes!

Play Max Payne on your Apple device (RM12.90) or Android device (RM9.99).

Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite

Originally on the PSP, I couldn’t let this widely loved series not be on this list. That’d be crazy! Freedom Unite is the expansion of Freedom 2 with more quests, equipment and monsters, and (sadly) is only available on iOS devices.

Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite can be downloaded on the App Store (RM59.90)

Sonic the Hedgehog

The first Sonic game was released on the Sega Genesis back in 1991 and has been the mascot for Sega ever since. Now you can play the first two games on your phone! *insert ring collecting sound here*

Download them now for free on the App Store (Sonic 1, Sonic 2) or Play Store (Sonic 1, Sonic 2). Warning, ads ahead...

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

A favourite of the resident Star Wars fans in Gamehubs, heck, probably even the entire Star Wars fanbase. This choose-your-own-path game lets you live as the infamous Revan, in your own non-canon/legend way. Will you fall as Darth Revan or will you thrive as a Jedi Master? Only you can decide.

SW:KOTOR is available on the App Store (RM39.90) and Play Store (RM38.99).

Final Fantasy VII

The Final Fantasy series household name of every gamer. This world famous JRPG has a remake on the way (apparently) and while you wait for that fine day, why don’t you relive the memories on the go? I’m sure you’ll enjoy seeing Cloud and co. again on your commute. Or maybe you’d like to play FFIV, V, VI, VII, XI or XV? I’m serious, they’re all there.

Get FFVII on the App Store (RM64.90) or Play Store (RM64.90)

Best of all? All these games are fully compatible with the Gamevice, so no more awkward mobile gaming or irregular movement because your hand started sweating from the Malaysian heat!
