[Review] Cheesus Crust!! Its Another Holy Potato Game And This Time We Are In Hell

By Nicolas See Tho on Oct 20, 2017

If you have heard of the Holy Potatoes franchise by Daylight Studios, then you must have recently played one of the most humorous games that we have come across, in the form of, yes, you guessed it, Potato people. Thus far, the Spuds have opened a weapon shop for potato heroes and ventured into space for an intergalactic adventure, but this time, their latest title Holy Potatoes! What the Hell! brings us literally to hell, and this time our chosen spud is a chef. I think you get where this is going.

This time, you are a chef who is mysteriously sent to hell whereby you have to cook up a storm for various gods of the underworld. Managing your group of damned chefs are famous chefs like Gorodon Yamsay and a potato Jamie Oliver. If anything, this game is made to be puntastic. Aside from looking like you average management sim game, the humour is the mainstay of the game but don't get me wrong, the game can get difficult when it needs to be.

There are four stats that players use in this game which are cardinal sins such as Malice, Greed, Apathy and Pride, whereby players have to sort souls of the damned accordingly in order to generate the ingredients they would use to create dishes. Your customers in hell are the gods of the underworld from various cultures with figures from Loki to Izanami making an appearance. Each time you appease them, they will award you points that you can use to upgrade your facilities and equipment.

The gameplay is separated into 2 phases, the preparation stage which gives you time to pre-cook meals or generates enough ingredients for the upcoming meal session. After each level, the player will be introduced to a Ned Flanders-like character which sells you boosts, power-ups and even aesthetic bonuses using the in-game currency. $tarch. Yes, exactly the same kind you are thinking right now. These items can vary from toppings for ingredients to time reduction on your cooking duration, each of these boosts is extremely important to your progress throughout the various levels.

Overall, Holy Potatoes! What The Hell! is definitely a fun interlude in between your nightly grinds either in Dota 2 or Overwatch, it is a laugh to see each soul being condemned for a random sin which holds no value by itself as well as its full cast of references to real stars and people. It is already on Steam now, so go and cook some spuds and earn those $tarches
